When I shoot spiritual places like Missions, Reservations, Synagogues, Mosques, and Cemeteries, capturing and emphasizing the light and dark shading that are not directly facing the viewer is spiritually intentional. In a world where good and evil are in constant demand for our moral attention, searching for middle shading almost feels like a welcome respite for the eye and heart.
